Frederick the Pious at the Diet of Augsburg in reference to the Heidelberg Catechism “Your Imperial Majesty, I continue in the conviction which I made known to you before I came here in person, that in matters of faith and conscience I acknowledge only one Lord who is Lord of all lords, and King of all kings. That is why I say that this is not a matter of the flesh, but of man’s soul and its salvation which I have received from my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His truth I am duty bound to guard. Heard this from a brother yesterday and grabbed my Catechism of the Catholic Church to confirm. And it is there CCC 841 states: “The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.” I would have accepted this at one point in my life before truly knowing who Jesus is and not having an understanding of the basics of Islam. A common objection people will make against the deity of Christ is “where in the Bible does Jesus specifically say He is God?”, or “Jesus is not God he was just a prophet” or “Jesus was a nice man, an example of good behavior, but not God.” It was a Jehovah’s Witness that first raised this objection and I admit at the time I didn’t have a good solid answer. If we are going to go out and share the Gospel with others I believe it’s important to understand what other faiths believe in. This enables us to speak the truth in Love (Ephesians 4:15) because it shows respect to the other person who will see that you took the time to understand their point of view thus opening the door to give them the truth of the Gospel. Here is a summary of my understanding of the Jehovah Witness core beliefs based on my studies. Most of the information here is quoted and summarized from the articles, video, and the JW’s website which containsRead More →
