Everyone is messed up, and if you profess Christ you are religious. Why do people seek out churches that “have the right kind of people they are looking for” rather than seek a church that preaches the Gospel and holds to the doctrines taught by Christ in His Word?
Why not seek a church of messed up religious people who in all their flaws love the Lord, love the truth, and seek to honor and glorify Him in all word and deed?
When I read the scriptures I see a church that was under great persecution from the outside, and battling false teachings from within. They fought hard for the truth and many paid with their lives to preserve the truth. They didn’t have the luxury to pick from a bunch of churches to find one “that fits their personal needs” like we do today. The scripture warned us about our times:
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 4 So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
It doesn’t matter what church you attend you will always find flawed people that dislike others. If this is your focus on finding a church then I submit that this is coming from a place of arrogance, selfishness, and the person you should really be examining is yourself.
Seek a church that holds to the scriptures as the soul infallible and final authority; one that holds to the teachings as laid down by Christ and the apostles.
And then love those people as Christ commands us to.
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer
“These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly; but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”
